Four Concerts for the ‘Clerorfa’

2008 is going to be a great year for Clera and for Welsh traditional music. In addition to our series of Workshops, the Clerorfa – the folk ‘orchestra’ - will perform four times in Wales and overseas over the summer months, which means a hectic schedule of rehearsing and performing up to the end of September.

One of the concerts is the official Gala opening of the Inter-Celtic Festival in Lorient, Brittany – now the biggest festival of its kind in the world. There will be a second concert in Lorient two days later: La Grande Nuit du Pays de Galles. Two weeks before the Breton concerts, members will appear on the main stage of Sesiwn Fawr, Dolgellau, and in September, in St. Asaph Cathedral as part of the North Wales International Music Festival.

Since the first concert in Caernarfon to celebrate Clera’s 10th anniversary, the membership of the Clerorfa has increased to 55 and now includes musicians from all part of Wales, the vast majority of whom are amateurs. Young people under the age of 21 account for almost 30 per cent of the total, and there are no less than 10 family groups represented.

The Artistic Directors are Stephen Rees and Robin Huw Bowen, and the Administrators Sioned Webb and Arfon Gwilym.
