Y Glerorfa was formed in 2006 for the tenth anniversary concert of Clera. The aim is to present Wales’ traditional melodies in a new and exciting manner and to promote Welsh musical culture in Wales and beyond.
Y Glerorfa is a folk orchestra and is different from ordinary orchestras in that there is no conductor, and no musical scores are used by the players. The instruments you will hear are fiddles, harps, flutes and the occasional bagpipe and pigorn. The members hail from all corners of Wales and the age range and performing experience varies tremendously. Some of the members are also gifted dancers and singers and we often perform sets that demonstrate these talents.
Y Glerorfa has two musical directors – triple harpist Robin Huw Bowen and fiddler Gwenno Roberts. Robin is one of the original directors and Gwenno, who has been involved with Clera since a young age, became a musical director last year.
Y Glerorfa is open to new members of all instruments – there are no auditions, but it is expected that you are able to play the folk melodies from memory.
If you are interested in becoming a member of Y Glerorfa, or would like Y Glerorfa to perform in your area please contact the organiser Siwan Evans email@example.com
